Despite Germany’s disappointing Round of 32 exit at the World Cup, Joshua Kimmich is expected to remain captain under new head coach Jürgen Klopp.

“I assume so,” Germany sporting director Rudi Völler said at the International Coaches’ Congress in Mainz, according to DPA.

“Jo Kimmich has proven in many international matches that he is a leader and a great captain. I cannot imagine there will be any major change in that position.”

Völler stressed that the final decision naturally rests with Klopp, but added:

“We have all followed what he has said. You didn’t really get the impression that anything else was planned.”

Kimmich was appointed Germany captain after Euro 2024, taking over the role from Ilkay Gündogan.
