No, the following statistic is not a typo. In a doubleheader for the Madison Night Mares on June 28, Washington Huskies outfielder Ava Carroll went 7-for-9 with a walk, 2 home runs, 7 runs scored, and 8 runs batted in, earning her Player of the Night honors in the Northwoods Softball League.

It was nearly a perfect day for Carroll, although the Night Mares suffered their first loss of the season to another Husky, Marley Teasley, and the Wausau Ignite, in what has been a stellar summer for the rising senior in The Badger State.

Across 18 games in the collegiate summer league, Carroll has torn the cover off the ball to the tune of a .540 batting average and 1.581 OPS. Along the way, she's compiled 34 hits, with 7 doubles, a triple, and 6 home runs, 38 runs scored, 31 RBI, 15 walks, and 8 stolen bases, while she's struck out just twice.

As the former Mt. Hood Community College transfer looks to build on a strong campaign, in which she earned NFCA All-Mountain Region Third Team honors, after tallying a .345 batting average on 61 hits, 5 home runs, 34 RBIs, and 36 runs scored, her role with the Night Mares could prepare her well for what's to come on coach Heather Tarr's squad.

After the emergence of All-Big Ten Freshman Team outfielder Kaycie Burdick, Carroll, who was Washington's leadoff hitter for most of the 2025 season and began 2026 at the top of the order, dropped to the No. 5 spot, where she could become one of the Huskies' top run producers in her senior year behind third baseman Giselle Alvarez and catcher Jadyn Glab.

With every member of Washington's lineup set to return for the 2027 season, Carroll has an opportunity to be one of the centerpieces on a team that could compete for one of the top spots in the Big Ten.
