Watch every penalty attempt as Paraguay ousts Germany in riveting World Cup shootout

It wasn't enough to settle the match in 90 minutes. 120 minutes wasn't enough either. Penalties will have to do.
Paraguay and Germany required a penalty shootout to determine which team would advance to the round of 16 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. A Paraguay goal in the first half wasn't enough for the underdogs to hang on, as Germany responded quickly in the second half to level the score.

Chances on both sides didn't find the back of the net, leaving penalties to decide each team's fate.
Here's how it looked in Boston.

Canale nets the final penalty kick to give Paraguay a hard-fought victory over Germany, 1-1 (4-3) in the shootout.

Amiri made a nice move to deke the keeper. The shootout is tied, but Paraguay will get another chance to win it.
Antonio Sanabria misses wide left
Sanabria had a chance to win it for Paraguay. He put it just wide left of the post. They can still win with one more made kick or another Orlando Gill save.

Paraguay now just needs to make one of its final two kicks to advance to the round of 32.

He puts it in the left corner. Paraguay maintains the lead and the advantage.

Jamal Musiala narrowly scores for Germany
Orlando Gill nearly got his right hand on Musiala's kick to the left corner, but it just skittered by the keeper's arm.

Gustavo Gomez puts Paraguay ahead
Gomez beat Manuel Neuer to the right, forcing the goalie to dive the opposite direction. Paraguay maintains the edge.

Joshua Kimmich wrong-foots Orlando Gill
Kimmich deked the Paraguay keeper and shoved it by him into the left side of the net. The shootout is now level, but Germany will need Paraguay to miss at least one of their five kicks.

Mauricio nets first Paraguay penalty kick
Paraguay has a lead in the shootout. Like Havertz, Mauricio aimed to his right. Manuel Neuer read it, but it was too well-placed.

Orlando Gill saves Kai Havertz penalty kick
Havertz took aim at the right side of the net. Gill was able to dive to his left and punch the ball out of harm's way.
