A powerful earthquake struck Japan’s Kyushu island on 28 July, forcing more than 150,000 people to evacuate. The quake caused power outages, damaged roads, brought down part of a castle wall, and destroyed a footbridge. More than 40,000 households are without power and several people are missing after a chimney collapsed at a paper factory in the Kumamoto prefecture, according to the police who are being cited by Japan's public broadcaster NHK.
