Webb City Little League set to defend state title

The Missouri 12-and-under Little League brackets are set and the teams ready to play, with the Webb City All-Stars hoping to earn their fifth straight trip to the Midwest Regional in Whitestown, Indiana.

The five-team state tournament is also the first step in Webb City's quest for a third trip to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, in August.

The Webb City Little League earned a spot in the Little League World Series in 2002 and 2015. The only other Missouri team to get there is perennial power and Missouri tournament host Daniel Boone Little League of Columbia, which qualified in 2006.

Webb City has claimed the state 12-and-under title 12 times in the last 25 years and received a first-round bye in this year’s state tournament.

Webb City will play the winner of the North Kansas City-Twin City (Festus/Crystal City) game at 5 p.m. Thursday. North Kansas City and Twin City face off at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Daniel Boone National opens against Harrison County Little League at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. If Webb City and Daniel Boone are both victorious, it would set up a battle between the two powerhouse Little League charters in the semifinal at 5 p.m. Friday.

The championships for the double-elimination tourney are scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday. If necessary, Game 2 will follow on Sunday.

Webb City cruised through its first two games of the District 2 tournament, logging a 16-4 win against Springfield and a 20-2 win over Joplin. They faced off against a determined Springfield team that was facing elimination and fell 12-9, setting up a third match up between the two teams.

Webb prevailed in that championship game 7-2, behind a combined two-run no-hitter by pitchers Beckett Cowan and Chipper Hunt.

Harrison County will represent District 1 after capturing that district tile. It posted a 15-2 win over LaCoMo Central, beat LaCoMo East 10-2 and beat East a second time, 5-2 en route to a Missouri state tourney spot. LaCoMO includes players from Lafayette, Johnson, Cooper and Morgan counties.

District 3 champ Twin City, representing Festus and Crystal City, posted a 37-0 win over SEMO North (Advance) in its district opener and went on to defeat DeSoto 20-10 and 17-4 to advance to the state tourney.

North Kansas City went through the District 5 tourney unscathed, posting a 6-0 win over Fort Osage Youth Baseball (Independence), a 4-3 squeaker against Royals Amateur Development System of Kansas City and a 12-2 win over Fort Osage in the championship game.

Daniel Boone National will represent District 4 after posting a 10-8 win over Jefferson City, a 15-4 victory over Daniel Boone American and a 12-2 win over Jefferson City in the district championship game.
