The official start of the unofficial second half of the MLB season took place last night when the Phillies opened their series at home with the New York Mets in primetime through a plume of Canadian wildfire smoke.

But the rest of the league resumes today, with 15 games (including a doubleheader) featuring the other 28 teams around baseball beginning their second half schedule. The postseason picture has begun to take shape, and we will find out over the next two plus weeks who will be a buyer and who will be a seller at the upcoming August 3rd trade deadline. As of right now, only seven teams are more than five games outside of a playoff spot, so it will be interesting to see who waves the white flag at the deadline and who elects to stay the course.

There are sure to be more twists and turns as the season heads into its final stretch. It’s extremely likely that not everyone who currently occupies a postseason spot will do so when the dust settles, especially considering the close proximity to which numerous teams are to each other.
