Biggest weakness: Cornerback. The Commanders allowed a league-high 384.3 yards per game, in large part thanks to a secondary that surrendered a 59.2 QBR (second worst) last season. The Commanders will be hoping for a better season from Mike Sainristil and a Year 2 leap from 2025 second-round pick Trey Amos in 2026. Amik Robertson and Ahkello Witherspoon were brought in as veteran competition after primarily working as situational players during the past few seasons.

It's interesting that he chose the cornerback position as the weakest, and not wide receiver. Granted, there are questions at both positions, but there have been numerous questions around whether the Commanders did enough to help Jayden Daniels on offense. Those questions remain largely unanswered. However, cornerback hasn't been talked about as often.

Trey Amos, Mike Sainristil and Amik Robertson are the projected starters. Behind them, the Commanders have the recently signed Rasul Douglas, Ahkello Witherspoon, and Darius Rush. There are no big household names, no real superstar-type players. And given how the secondary performed last year, it's unclear whether the cornerback room has improved. Washington hopes that a new defensive scheme, coupled with an improved pass rush, will help the entire secondary in 2026.

The wide receivers' room is in a similar state, with Terry McLaurin as the lone superstar. Both units are mostly untested and struggled in 2025, so it's fair to say that either one could have been named the biggest weakness.
