World Cup 2026: What teams have reached the Quarterfinals?

The Round of 16 is underway at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and now teams are booking spots in the Quarterfinals.

The Round of 16 begins on Saturday, the Fourth of July here in the United States, with Canada taking on Morocco in Houston. Later in the day Saturday tournament favorites Kylian Mbappé and company will look to get by a Paraguay side that is coming off a stunning upset of Germany in a match in Philadelphia.

Sunday has a pair of intriguing matches, with Brazil taking on Erling Haaland and Norway before Mexico plays host to England in Mexico City. And then on Monday the United States joins the fray, going up against Belgium in Seattle.

Here are the teams that are moving on to the Quarterfinals, out of the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Morocco became the first team to book a spot in the Quarterfinals, with a 3-0 victory over Canada on Saturday.

Azzedine Ounahi recorded a brace in the second half to give Morocco a 2-0 lead, and Soufiane Rahimi added a third goal in stoppage time for good measure to solidify Morocco’s position in the Quarterfinals. They will wait on the winner of Saturday evening’s match between France and Paraguay.

France will face Morocco in the Quarterfinals, following a 1-0 victory over Paraguay.

Paraguay did their best to frustrate — and even stifle — Kylian Mbappé and company. But substitute Desire Doue won a penalty in the 69th minute, which was then converted by Mbappé to take France to a 1-0 lead.

It would hold up.

But Les Bleus are moving on, and Paraguay are headed home.

Erling Haaland’s brace propelled Norway to a 2-1 win over Brazil. For Brazil, it is their earliest exit from the World Cup since 1990. As for Norway, this is the first time the Scandinavian side has reached the Quarterfinals, having been knocked out of the Round of 16 twice before, first in 1938 and most recently in 1998.

“Maybe this will write history in Norway,” Haaland said after the win. “Everyone just need to enjoy themselves. This is just an insane day. It’s one of the most insane days in Norwegian history. Just enjoy it, embrace it and enjoy the moment.”

They will meet England or Mexico for a spot in the Semifinals.

England survived not just a red card, and a tough Mexico side that fought until the final whistle, but also the environment at Estadio Azteca on Sunday night to book a spot in the Round of 16 with a 3-2 win.

Jude Bellingham’s first-half brace was not enough for England. A goal from Julián Quiñones pulled Mexico within a goal, but a penalty for Harry Kane gave England a 3-1 lead. But that came minutes after Jarell Quansah was shown a red card, leaving England with just ten men for the rest of the match. A penalty from Raúl Jiménez pulled Mexico within a goal.

From there, England held strong in the face of tremendous pressure from Mexico, including cross after cross, but Mexico did not find the equalizer they needed, and the Three Lions are moving on.

Thanks to a 1-0 win over Portugal, Spain moves on to the Quarterfinals.

It was a tightly contested match that seemed destined for extra time, even though Spain enjoyed the run of play for the most part. But after spending the bulk of the match searching for that perfect cross, Spain used a straight-forward approach to find the goal that you felt was coming:

Spain now waits on the winner of Monday night’s match between the United States and Belgium.

Belgium is moving on to the Quarterfinals following a 4-1 win over the United States.

While much of the pre-match buildup centered on FIFA’s decision to suspend the one-match ban for Folarin Balogun, Belgium began this match on the front foot, pressuring the United States and forcing several mistakes. A ninth-minute goal from Charles De Ketelaere gave Belgium the early lead, and when the United States equalized on a free kick from Malik Tillman, De Ketelaere gave Belgium the lead mere seconds later:

And with the United States throwing everything forward in the second half, Belgium capitalized on a pair of mistakes from the USMNT in its own end. The first one led to a goal from Hans Vanaken, and the second led to the fourth goal of the night, from Romelu Lukaku.

Belgium will play Spain in the Quarterfinals.

Argentina is moving on to the Quarterfinals.

But not without a tremendous scare thanks to Egypt.

The Pharaohs held a 2-0 lead deep into the second half, until the floodgates opened for Argentina. First it was Cristian Romero, whose thunderous header in the 79th minute pulled one back for Argentina. Then just mintues later it was who else but Lionel Messi, who slotted home with the left foot to equalize.

Egypt came close, but Messi and pals are moving on to the Quarterfinals.
