Yankees Sequence of the Week: David Bednar (7/28)

The Yankees have gotten off to a decent start on their ten-game road trip, winning four of the first six contests. They have put themselves in position to win three out of four from the White Sox, which would send them to the North side of Chicago winners of their last three series. Mostly lights-out pitching has been at the forefront of this run of games, the performance of the bullpen in particular standing out before yesterday's gut punch loss. That unit is where we select our Sequence of the Week from, David Bednar slamming the door on a late White Sox rally Tuesday night.

We join Bednar with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. In recording the first two outs of the frame, Bednar had extended his MLB-leading scoreless inning streak to 24 frames, but that came to an end when he surrendered the two-out, two-run homer to Chase Meidroth to allow the White Sox to pull within one and make the final out a lot more tense than it might have been, former Yankee Everson Pereira stepping to the plate to pinch-hit as the potential tying run.
