I was a reader of the Almanac long before I wrote for it, and I've now been a part of it for 10 years – it's something I've always valued. I always appreciate the level of detail it goes into; the deep insights it brings out and the projections that it comes up with. But I've also always appreciated the fact that the numbers aren't treated as gospel. The standard disclaimer we give every year when we release our final projections — a few of them will look strange to you. A few of them look strange to us – isn't just some cover-our-behinds boilerplate. We can look at our numbers with critical eyes and see where we disagree with our system. We're not stuck with just parroting the eventual projections, even if we end up agreeing with the vast majority of them. It's not just a book of numbers; it's a book written by nearly a dozen people, each with our own thoughts and opinions.
