Like a lot of promising prospects, Kager Knueppel has been at Peach Jam this week. As Duke fans know, he committed to Duke in late June.

It’s going to be interesting, because he follows his brother, Kon, to Durham.

Kon, of course, was a revelation. When guys were asked on the Brotherhood Podcast who had impressed them the most, almost everyone said “Kon.” He had a terrific year at Duke, then went on to nearly win the NBA’s Rookie of the Year award, losing it to his Duke roommate, Cooper Flagg.

For a while, at least until he settles in, Kager will be compared to Kon, but it’s not entirely valid. First, he’s four inches taller than his big brother. Kon, remember, basically played point guard in the ACC Tournament when Flagg was injured. He just did anything a wing could do.

Kager is more of a stretch-four. At Duke, that places him more in the tradition of Danny Ferry, Christian Laettner, Kyle Singler, and Paolo Banchero, to name a few. He’s a fluid, agile big guy, but he’s probably not going to fill in at point guard, unless things have gone very, very wrong.

He has a very different game than his brother in almost every way.

Almost.

The thing that ties Kon and Kager together is that both are brilliant shooters. Kon just tore up the NBA on three-points in his rookie season, and at Peach Jam, and in his high school career, Kager is also a tremendous shooter.

You can find other examples of his shot on YouTube, but here are three great examples from Peach Jam. You’ll notice that he has characteristics that most great shooters have: excellent form, a nice arc on the shot, and, consistently, it’s soft. His shots don’t tend to hit the sides of the rim. He hits more often than not, obviously, and when he does, the ball falls straight through. Sometimes it’s so soft that the net barely moves.

It’s going to be fun watching him develop at Duke, and watching him forge his own identity. He won’t be know just as Kon’s little brother for long.
